Welcome to Braintree & District Athletic Club

Braintree & District Athletic Club provides a wide range of Athletics Training and Competition for both new and experienced athletes in the Braintree Area. This includes track, field (jumping and throwing), multi event, road running, trail running and cross country.

The club has seen remarkable growth in the last few years, more than doubling in size, with growth seen particularly in the junior sections, endurance, and road running. We compete and train throughout the year with training nights on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Braintree Track.

TRACK & FIELD FIXTURES: Entries to this year’s Essex AA and Eastern AA indoor championships on the 1st and 2nd March are now open. The entry deadline is 17th February. See our Activities: Track & Field page for important information.

CLUB MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL 2026: Membership is due for renewal on 1st Feb and should be paid by the end of February. Our secretary’s letter and the application/renewal form can be found on our membership page here. Please take your completed renewal form & fees to the signing in desk.

CLUB TRACK DEFIBRILLATOR: Anyone in cardiac arrest needs a defibrillator as quickly as possible and the one inside the sports centre could take too long to access. Thanks to generous donations, the Club have been able to provide one at the track, currently accessible from the Club Hut during training nights but intended to be mounted outside a new planned shelter.

SIMON MENNELL WINS “COACH OF THE YEAR” AWARD FROM ENGLAND ATHLETICS

Our head coach, Simon Mennell was presented with this prestigious award by England Athletics for all his hard work and dedication to coaching both on and off the track

BDAC ATHLETES EXCEL AT THE INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS NATIONAL XC FINALS

These BDAC athletes represented their schools in beautiful weather and on a dry mix terrain at Nottingham. In their respective age groups:

Charlie crossed the line in second place earning himself a silver medal.

Alistair ran a fantastic race winning Bronze.

Jack finished 12th position.

Heidi finished in 5th place.

Excellent results from these young Braintree & District Athletic Club athletes in a national competition!Congratulations team!

LEWIS THORN: SOUTH OF ENGLAND CHAMPION

Congratulations Lewis Thorn who broke his own 400m Club record to become the South Of England Champion on 13th June, only to break it again with 48.44 on 17 July in the Semi Final of the England Athletics Senior Championships.

CULHAM BREAKS CLUB MARATHON RECORD.

Congratulations to 21year old Braintree athlete and coach Conor Culham. At Dorney Lake Marathon today he has broken the 7 year old Senior Men marathon record of 2:44:03, in a fantastic time of 2:42.49.

Marathon training can’t be taken lightly, and today’s performance was following 11 years of hard work and dedication to endurance training in all weather conditions. Outstanding performance Conor!

SOME OF OUR JUNIOR’s SUCCESSES


Taylor Gooding won the Under 14 Girls Junior Fell Race at the Dufton Show, Cumbria on Saturday 31st August 2019 on a very wet & windy day. In doing so she won her age category for the fourth year in a row. One of the fields contained some stampeding cows so the race organisers made a last minute change to the race route. Fortunately she was able to quickly recce part of the route just beforehand.	Congratulations to Rose Sheppad who won the under 17 girls fell race at the Malham Show in the Yorkshire Dales on 24th August. Approx 2.5 miles with 500 ft total climb.
