Stebbing Cross Country

After postponements due to the weather, the first Mid Essex League Cross Country match of the winter took place at Stebbing.

A dry and sunny morning was some compensation for this boggy course which also had a number of ice cold river crossings, set by an pugilistic race organiser.

After his great race two days earlier, Gavin Allen did magnificently to win the Men's 5 mile race in a competitive field.

Simon Mennell was 25th, while Lee Cousins did well to finish in 57th, despite being sent the wrong way and losing a number of places.

Trevor Sibley was 43rd, Ryan Askew 78th, Mark Fribbens 96th and Kevin Cockell 97th.

THe men's team finished in 6th place.

In the Ladies Race, run concurrently, Josie Sheffield came a brilliant 4th, while on her debut for the club, Claire Gordon was15th with Dorinda Fribbens in 39th.

Despite the tough conditions and the distance, 15 year old Chloe Cockell put on a gutsy performance to finish in 40th position and score handsomely for the club.

Overall the Ladies Team finished in fourth position.

Let's have a great turnout at our next Cross Country race on the 9th January hosted by Springfield Striders.
