Details of Cross Country Venues

Details of venues follow where known.  Not all of these are used in any particular year.

Full details for each race will be posted on the club facebook page in the week prior to it.

Writtle University College, Lordship Road, Writtle  CM1 3RR
Parking is in the main car parks close to the course and sign posted from Lordship Road. Lots of spaces available but it can get quite busy and in constant use by the students, so please allow enough time. Nearest refreshments will be at the teashop across Lordship Road, a 7 or 8 minute walk from the course.

Epping Forest (Orion) clubhouse, Jubilee Retreat,Bury Road, Chingford E4 7QJ. No parking at the clubhouse. Use Chingford Plain Car Park or 5 minute walk from Chingford Rail and Bus stations. See course maps here (all races start and finish at the end of the short yellow section, but this is not part of the lap itself).

Apex Playing Fields, Apex Corner, Hockley SS5 5AU.  There is limited parking at the venue itself and you may need to park in the surrounding roads. Please park considerately and car share where possible. Note the school (Greensward College) is now unavailable for parking. There will be limited toilet facilities but no changing facilities at the site.

Little Baddow, Recreation Ground, Riffhams Chase, Little Baddow (CM3 4AU) 10.30am. Start is 10 min walk from the recreation ground approximately 150m down track in Postmans Lane. Strictly no parking at the start. Limited parking at recreation ground; also at Memorial Hall (CM3 4TA) at top of North Hill. Please car share where possible. Changing, toilets and showers available for men and ladies along with aprés race refreshments at the club house in Riffhams Chase where the results will be announced. Toilet facilities also available at the Memorial Hall (PRE-RACE ONLY). The hall will be locked (and not re-opened) shortly before the race starts so please do not leave any items in the hall and please leave no litter on the course or anywhere.
Directions to Little Baddow Ridge Runners Clubhouse (Riffhams Chase)
Heading from Chelmsford towards Danbury along the A414, in the middle of Danbury/Eves Corner (at the mini roundabout, village shops and pond) turn left into Little Baddow Road, continue along this road which leads onto the Ridge. On this road (after approx 1 mile from Eves corner) there is a triangular road warning sign for a school, shortly after this is Riffhams Chase, turn left into this road, (if you pass the Generals Arms public house which is on the left, you have gone too far). After 50 meters (in Riffhams chase) on the right is a turning in between some trees, the clubhouse pavilion is at the end of this short track.

Great Notley Country Park, CM77 7FS, only accessible from the N-bound A131 carriageway. The car park may be busy after the earlier Park Run. Please try to car share. Pay for parking at the machines before you leave (2hrs is £3.50). You can walk through the underpass from the adjacent Great Notley housing estate but if you choose to do this please park considerately. There is also free parking at Tesco’s if you leave within 3 hours. Use the crossing by the roundabout to enter the park. The courses are generally grassy, hilly in parts,likely to be slippery and in parts muddy. Parts (in particular the longer races) are on firm gravel paths. There is no u11’s race. Changing rooms and toilets are accessible from the back of the Discovery centre building. Do use the café but not for changing nor just to keep warm.

Rivenhall Community Hall CM8 3PH TL829175, please park neatly at the community hall or 30yds North on same side (signed “Free Parking”) or 100yds South in layby opposite Witham road. NO parking in Beech road please. Toilets and Free refreshments in the Community hall.
NO muddy footwear in the Hall. Start is 800 metres away across fields. 5 miles in 2 laps, all off road on public footpaths. Start and Finish on footpath near Stoverns Hall: cross road from Community Hall into St Mary’s road and at Footpath Signpost turn right between houses onto footpath, straight ahead on a RH field edge. Bear right across a field on an obvious path, cross a footbridge, turn left on a LH field edge. At the field corner turn right with the hedge on your left, to the start at the Track. Spikes or Studs are OK.

One Tree Hill is part of Langdon Hills Country Park, Horndon on the Hill, Corringham SS17 9NH. From Chelmsford, follow A130 south, then on to the A13 towards London. Exit at junction with A176 then continue on to the B1420 to the junction for “One Tree Hill”. Turn right here (passes back over the A13) and follow for about half a mile. The car park entrance is on the left.

Hylands Park is accessed via Greenbury Way, A414 (not the A12), closest satnav: CM1 3RL. There is a large free car park near to the start area. Loos but no changing. Commercial refreshments.

Horseheath Point to Point course is midway between Horseheath and Linton on the A1307. The postcode of the course is CB21 4QF but CB21 4QP will probably get you closer on most sat navs Travelling West along the A1307 from Haverhill look for the entrance to the course on the LH side of the road about 1 mile after passing Horseheath (just after road becomes a dual carriageway)
